The system of abandoned and unused churches of Roero The strategic plan for their promotion through a series of cultural, tourist, environmental and gastronomic routes

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to enhance Roero through a network of routes that combine culture, environment and enogastronomic tourism. The project wants to create an interaction between the protection and enhancement of historical goods and the cultural and territorial context in which they are located. Abandoned churches are reused in full respect of the "genius loci", through the study of best practices analyzed at national and European-level. The solutions were found not only on good practices of various religious buildings but also on the ones of rural historic houses - i.e. castles, and farmhouses - which in recent years, have been equipped to provide services; this gave the rise to the phenomenon of rural tourism.
