There’s the chance to suggest an integrated approach to the cultural sustainability, in old towns and in industrial heritage, and to the general energetic-environmental issues. In Rieti, close to the old town centre, we can find and old industrial site, set in 1873, starting with the Saccarifera Italiana plant, followed by the Supertessile (1926) and the Montecatini (1937). This site is suitable for the most burdensome functions in the cultural and energetic point of view. The socially most proper uses are those able to built up a centrality, gained through the transfer of non-sustainable uses in the old town and the conversion of the old industrial area in a site oriented toward the new contents of production: sustainable energy from renewable sources, services and environmental quality.
