Augustinian nuns from the Monastery of Santi Quattro Coronati, Rome. They describe themselves as “unarmed women that challenge individualism through the patient weaving of holy communion; ordained that, as all do, yearn for beauty and have the urban landscape as the horizon of their prayer – with its deafening noise and its silent desolations, its joys, richness, hopes and anguish, its deserts of solitude and its anonymous crowds.”

Abstract

This speech was delivered by the Augustinan nuns of the monastery of Santi Quattro Coronati in Rome, during the days of the summer school in Lucca. They defined the key places of monastic life which can be found in every monastery. Before being defined as a cultural and religious heritage, a monastery is first of all the home of those who inhabit it and it has its own traditions and peculiarities.
